Hand injuries hamper the Brunswick XI v Banstead CC

Brighton Brunswick Cricket Club v Banstead Cricket Club

(Thursday 4 August 2016)

Brunswick 185 lost to Banstead 187 for 3

The match reporter was unable to attend the all-day Brunswick match against Banstead and only brief details are appended below.

Captain Carl Simon won the toss and in an all-day match elected to bat on an overcast and humid day. His injury riven team, with two hard-core members Becca Silk and Safi Waheedulah, both suffering from hand injuries, were confined to the boundary to watch their batsmen struggle to score runs against a tight Banstead bowling attack.

Victor Davies, batting at number 3 was the mainstay of the Brunswick innings. His fine 79 and partnership with Mike Rose who scored a splendid 52 were the only batsmen to come to terms with the Banstead bowling. With six batsmen failing to make double figures the Brunswick could only cobble together an innings total of 186 runs off 40 overs. Far too few on a ground with a lightening outfield.

The best of the Banstead bowlers was:

R Condie with 14 overs, 5 maidens and 5 wickets for 69 runs.
M. Cogliatti with 15 overs, 4 maidens and 4 wickets for 38 runs.

Despite an early success when opening bowler Arron Brown dismissed Banstead's number two batsman Estall, LBW for 0, Baker and Bedford were hardly troubled by the Brunswick bowling. These two took the score to 132 before O'Keefe bowled Baker for 65. Bedford went on to score a fine 88 before falling to the spin of Ali and was well caught on the boundary by Jarrod.

Sultan 25 N.O. and Daul 1 N.O. scored the winning runs to take the total to 187-3 off only 26 overs
